And it's not long xD Sorry
Chapter 1 :D
1. Introduction
He was one of those weird kids at the front of the class. Usually it was the weird kid at the back, but not in this case.
Tre stared at the back of the kid’s blonde head. He didn’t even know what his name was… Not that it mattered, he was just a classmate. From his usual back seat, Tre could see that the blonde had an assortment of colored threads on his desk, a few strands even taped to it.
Of course.
Green eyes gazing at the wrists of his fellow students, Tre made the assumption that each of his classmates bracelets were made by the blonde boy. Looking down at his naked wrist, he could not help but feel left out. After all, how could he not? He was the only one he could see without a bracelet (not that he wanted one, it was more along the lines of wanting to be given something). Yet, Tre should not have even been expecting one in the first place; he did not even know the kid’s name.
“Class dismissed.” The teacher suddenly announced, stacking his books on the desk. Apparently, Tre missed part of the lesson.
Gathering his books, he looked up just in time to see the blonde student walk past him, holding the box of string and a bright blue umbrella.
The umbrella was what caught Tre’s attention. According to the weather, it was not supposed to rain that day… Ignoring the umbrella, Tre stacked his books and notebooks on top of one another and exited the class.
The day looked sunny. Not a cloud in the sky actually. Perhaps the blondie heard incorrectly, or just assumed that it was going to rain.
Sighing, Tre slowly walked towards the local pizza shop. Pizza, then home. Simple, yet those were the plans that he wanted to follow. It was his last day of class that week anyhow.
Joining a group of others that were waiting to cross the street, Tre had his eyes set on the giant pizza sign. He recognized a few of them as members of his various classes, but they did not say anything to him, so in return, he did not bother saying anything to them. A little green person suddenly appeared where the red hand used to be, and suddenly, as though they were all connected, everyone began to cross the street at once. Quickening his pace before he was left behind, Tre caught up with the crowd and was successful in crossing the street without dying.
Pushing himself into the pizza shop, Tre ordered a slice of vegetarian pizza to go. Why stay in the shop if he could just walk home eating it?
Drumming his fingers against the counter, Tre waited for his pizza to come out. That is when he started to hear the complaints. Ears perking up to the conversation, Tre tried to appear as though he was not listening to them.
“-that’s what I thought.”
“Apparently the report was wrong, just look at the rain!”
The drumming stopped. Straightening himself, Tre turned around and to his horror, discovered that it was raining. And hard too. (He was surprised that he did not hear it on the streets and windows.) It looked as though a large sheet of rain had been draped over the city, everything now coated in a thin layer of water.
“Shit.” He muttered, looking at his expensive school books. Tre did not bring an umbrella… obviously.
“Vegetarian?” The owner announced, handing the slice over to Tre without a question. (Apparently he ate there a lot).
What was he going to do? Opening the box, Tre began to nibble on it. Glancing down at his watch, his mind began to think of the options. He could wait the rain out in the restaurant or he could try catching a taxi. Tre could even run through the rain to his house, though that last plan would fail.
Finishing the pizza off, Tre walked over to the window and took a look outside. Unfortunately, it was still raining. And, as stupid as it was, Tre did not want to wait the rain out. Throwing out the pizza box, Tre took his books and shoved them under his shirt, getting many strange looks from other people.
Taking a deep breath, Tre opened the door, the ring of the bell soon joined by the pounding sound of the rain. Wincing slightly, he stepped out into the cool rain, the drops slowly soaking into his clothing.
Stepping towards the street, Tre began waving down a taxi. A few normal cars drove by, one of them splashing him greatly, soaking his pants.
“Hey!” Tre yelled, clutching his books. He was not in the mood to pay another $500 for another set of books.
All around him, people were either rushing for cover, or joyfully walking with their umbrellas. Yet, none of them looked at Tre.
Shivering slightly, Tre held out his arm again and tried to wave another taxi down, only to get splashed yet again.
“Come on!” He muttered, shaking the extra water off of his arm. “Can’t I get a break?”
Then, the rain stopped.
Tre’s green eyes blinked a few times in confusion. The rain did not stop. Someone was sharing an umbrella with him.
Slowly turning around, he became face to face with the blonde kid from his class.
“Hey.” He laughed, a smile curling across his lips. “You shouldn’t stand like that. You could get sick, and we wouldn’t want that, right?”
Tre wiped some of his dripping hair from his face, his eyes refusing to break contact with the blonde’s.
Straightening himself up, Tre thanked the blonde as he continued to wipe his hair out of his eyes.
“Want me to walk you home?” He asked, leaning towards Tre.
He seemed trustworthy enough to walk with. He was in his class after all.
“What about you?” Tre asked, the rain pittering against the bright blue umbrella.
“Me?” He asked, clearly confused.
“Don’t you have to go home?”
The smile widened. “Of course, but I want to make sure you get home alright.”
It was Tre’s turn to smile. “To make sure I get home alright?”
“It’s pretty bad weather. There has already been a few accidents already.”
Tre nodded, that explained the odd flow of cars… Tre looked at the blonde and nodded. The reason seemed… well, reasonable.
“And …”
Tre looked up at the blonde, waiting for him to answer.
“… class would be lonely without you.”
That hit him. Lonely?
Tre walked beside the blonde kid, close enough that Tre’s clothing were getting his sleeve wet.
“Sorry.” He muttered.
“That’s fine, Tre.”
Class without him would be lonely…
If he recalled correctly, this was the first time that Tre was even talking to the kid. And he sat at the back of the class while the blonde sat at the front. How could class be lonely without him?
“Hey.” The blonde suddenly started, causing Tre to jump. “Sorry.” He laughed nervously. “But, how big is your personal bubble?”
Tre suddenly got a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach. “Not very big, why?”
“We would have more room if we linked arms, don’t you think?” He looked at Tre, his honey colored eyes connecting to Tre’s green. “If you don’t mind that is.”
Two college men linking arms under an umbrella. That was going to get a few stares.
But he did not want to offend the person walking him home.
“Sure, why not.” He muttered, allowing his arm to be gripped by the blonde, pulling their bodies close to one another.
He hated the feeling, but Tre could feel his clothes soaking the other man’s. Did that prove that they were too close?
First came the wetness, then came the heat.
Tre could feel the other man’s body heat warming his shivering body. Strangely enough, it was nice, almost a comfort for not being touched in so long.
“You’re cold.” The blonde muttered, squeezing Tre’s arm tighter.
“Sorry.” Tre muttered, trying to slip out of his classmate’s grip.
“No!” The blonde suddenly yelped, using his other arm to hold Tre closer. “I shouldn’t have said anything, I was just making conversation.”
Tre looked down at the other’s arm, immediately noticing that his wrist was covered in an assortment of bracelets.
Of course.
Tre turned his attention towards the ground. Puddles soaked the ground, the usual light grey sidewalk a cool dark grey. Above the beeps of the angry traffic, and the rain pounding against the umbrella, all Tre could hear was a soft humming radiating from the person next to him.
“Are you humming?”
The song stopped.
“Yep. Was I loud?”
Tre shook his head. “This close to me and you expect me not to hear?”
He laughed. Tre kind of wish he had been talking to him earlier as well.
“You have a point there!”
Tre felt himself smile, a warm feeling filling his chest.
“Anyway, what’s the song?”
“You don’t know it? It’s just ‘Build Me Up’” With that he cracked a smile and what shocked Tre, was that he started singing the song. And even more of a surprise was that he was good. Sneaking a peak around them, Tre noticed that a few people were starting to look.
“Hey.” He muttered just high enough for the blonde to hear.
The singing stopped.
“Hmm?”
Tre suddenly felt a little embarrassed, “People were looking…”
“Oh, does that bug you?” He asked, truly concerned.
“A little…” Tre felt a pang of guilt. Who was he to tell the kid to not sing? He was sharing his umbrella after all. If not for him, Tre would have to get new college books.
“Sorry, I won’t sing anymore.” He flashed a smile, only making Tre feel worse.
“Way to make me feel guilty.” Tre sighed. Boy, it was just one of those days of feeling like crap.
The duo continued to walk in silence. The rain still did not lessen up, even as they approached Tre’s house.
“This is it.” Tre said, looking over at the blonde, who looked over at Tre and smiled.
“Let me walk you to the door, no sense getting more wet, right?”
Tre gave a quick nod. That was true; he did not want to get even wetter.
Arms linked, the two boys walked up the grey, stone pathway up until the stairs. Tre continued walking as the blonde’s arm slipped out of his grip. Turning around to face the blonde’s smiling face, it all seemed too familiar.
“What do you want me to call you?” Tre asked, head suddenly feeling light. What was happening to him?
He wanted to cry.
“You can just call me Lex.”
AND WHY DO YOU WANT TO CRY?
AND WHY IS LEX SOUNDING LIKE HE WANTS?
XD
